Iipay was born to the Santa Ysabel, also known as the Santa Ysabel Nation, is a federally recognized Native American tribe residing in San Diego County, California, in the United States. The tribe is part of the great Kumeyaay nation, which has inhabited the region for millennia.

The Santa Ysabel Nation has a rich history and culture dating back centuries. Traditionally, the members of the tribe engaged in agriculture, hunting and gathering, and had a close relationship with the land and natural resources of their territory. The traditional Kumeyaay language has also been passed down through the generations, and the tribe has worked to revitalize and preserve their language and cultural traditions.

In more recent times, the Santa Ysabel Nation has sought to diversify its economy and create opportunities for its community. In 2007, the tribe opened a casino called the Santa Ysabel Resort and Casino on their tribal land, with the goal of generating revenue for the development and well-being of the tribe. However, the casino ran into financial difficulties and finally closed its doors in 2014.

Despite the challenges, the Santa Ysabel Nation continues to work to strengthen its community and preserve its cultural heritage. They participate in cultural activities, educational programs and economic development projects for the benefit of their members. In addition, the tribe seeks to collaborate with other indigenous communities and local entities to promote social justice and tribal sovereignty.
